Light Adjustable Lens

Vision that can be adjusted after surgery.

RxSight’s Light Adjustable Lens is a cataract implant that can be fine-tuned after it’s in your eye. Once you’ve healed, targeted light adjusts its power, so your result is based on how you actually see.

Why it’s different

Taking the guesswork out of lens power.

Traditional cataract surgery relies on measurements taken before surgery to choose your implant power. But small shifts happen as the eye heals, and no test can fully predict them.
With the Light Adjustable Lens, the power is fine-tuned after healing, using targeted ultraviolet light. That can mean more accurate results and a better chance at glasses-free vision.

Adjustable

Lens power is refined after you’ve healed.

Personalized

Your final vision is based on how you actually see.

More precise

Corrects small shifts that happen during healing.

Complex eyes

A strong option when measurements are harder to get right.

Candidacy

Who may benefit most?

  • You had LASIK, PRK or RK in the past
  • Your eyes are unusually long or short
  • You have irregular corneal astigmatism
  • You have corneal ectasia
  • You want the best chance at glasses-free distance vision after cataract surgery

What the process asks of you

Plan for several follow-up visits with dilated eyes over about 4 to 6 weeks, and wear UV-protective glasses during that time so daylight doesn’t change the lens unintentionally.

The adjustment process

From surgery to your final vision.

Your doctor guides each step, and you see the difference after every adjustment.
I
Surgery
Your cataract is removed and the Light Adjustable Lens is placed, just like standard cataract surgery.
II
Healing
Your eye heals for a few weeks while you wear UV-protective glasses.
III
Adjust
Short in-office light treatments fine-tune the lens power to your vision.
IV
Lock in
A final treatment sets the lens permanently.

Light Adjustable Lens FAQs

Questions patients ask us.

Why do I need to wear UV-protective glasses?

Until the lens is locked in, ultraviolet light can change it. The glasses protect it from unintended adjustments during the adjustment period.

How many visits will I need?

Several follow-up visits over about 4 to 6 weeks. Your eyes are dilated at each one so the lens can be adjusted precisely.

Can I have the LAL if I had LASIK before?

Yes. Patients with previous LASIK, PRK or RK are often excellent candidates, because standard measurements are harder to get right in their eyes.

Is the LAL right for everyone?

Not always. Your consultation will compare it with other implant options for your eyes and lifestyle.
